Colin McRae's Crash in Corsica
 
During the 2000 Corsican leg of the World Rally Championship, Colin McRae rather carelessly dropped his (very expensive) Ford Focus off a cliff. If it hadn't been for the full rollcage, it's unlikely that either he or co-driver Nicky Grist would have survived.
 
You can just see the rollcage in this shot. Even with the additional protection, the roof has been crushed in substantially. Notice that despite the severity of the impact, the shell has been kept straight enough for the door frame to still allow the door to open normally.
