Fiat Panda 1000

Ebay really is justified in describing itself as an online marketplace: The odd bargain interspersed with an awful lot of tat. While this car, in general terms, was obviously in the latter category, a price tag of ten pounds just about shoved it into the former. It was only a few miles down the road, so a recovery expedition (me, Rob, and the red Panda) set out to fetch it. Now that was entertaining - more so for me, as Rob was on steering duty in the newly-purchased beast. Which had a majorly leaky sunroof. Did I mention it was pissing it down with rain? Sorry Rob...

Well, we got the car back, at which point it was christened "The Atomic Shit'un", in due deference to it's condition. So what had I actually bought? The body was little more than a retirement home for tinworm, but the mechanicals were in pretty good nick - nice gearbox (on a Fiat?!?), five new tyres, a new exhaust, and an engine that started up when given some half decent fuel and a jump start. Definitely worth the money, then.

My original intention was to strip the car for parts, and this will be done at some point. For now, just the interior has been stripped and binned (it had gone mouldy anyway), leaving the bodyshell as a convenient container for the mechanicals. When the time comes, the remains of the shell will be chopped up, and the engine, gearbox, and anything else servicable crated up to be used as spares for the other cars.
